Sing Lim started Lindy Hopping in London in 1988.
Sing has been around long enough to put the Old into Old School though unfortunately not long enough to warrant the title Old Timer. She competed with her teacher Ryan Francois in the US Open in 1992, winning 3rd place in the Showcase Division. They did a bit better in the inaugural American Lindy Hop Championships in 1993, winning 1st place in the Lindy Hop division.
Since then, Sing has competed (ALHC, US Open), taught (Catalina, Herrang, Frankie 95), judged (World Champs, ALHC), performed (World Expo Shanghai), opened a dance studio (Jitterbugs Swingapore), got married (Chong Chan Meng), had 3 kids (KJ, IY, KY), competed somemore (ULHS, KLHC) and basically took advantage of the great experiences the Lindy hop world offers.
She considers judging the ILHC a great honour and takes the position seriously. Sitting in the best seat in the house, she feels the responsibility to choose what represents Lindy hop today, linking the historical heritage of the dance with the modern discoveries and developments of the day.
Any discussions with her on judging or lindy hop or fashion are very welcomed, as long as cuppuccino and cookies are involved.
